Why This Topic
This topic is about my experience with why I migrated from WordPress to Ghost.
CJ Angle
WordPress is considered a very powerful and good tool to use. It comes with many comprehensive plugins and editor tools that can really make building sites easy. Ghost is slightly different from WordPress—it may not come with as many open source plugins as WordPress, but when it comes to page customization, it's definitely on another level.
Perhaps the reason is that Ghost really lends itself to customization and styling. In a previous post, I shared how I used Claude to help draft and design, which eventually led me to publish on Ghost.
WordPress vs Ghost
With WordPress, page customization is definitely limited. But when it comes to plugins like Elementor or Block, they can totally make your page look great. That's why WordPress has so many support tools that can fit your needs. But mostly when it comes to subsets, if you're using the free version, the available widgets or tools can be slightly limited.
Ghost doesn't come with this store of options. If you're quite strong on web coding, Ghost is really good for you. You can build whatever theme or format you want, but you just need to be prepared for troubleshooting a lot in the coding part.
So in short, if you're a beginner with no coding knowledge, WordPress is the safer lead. But if you want a challenge and lots of customization options, Ghost might be worth trying.
Tools to Use
Besides the options above, there's another playground I've been using for designing. I'm not a designer or web developer, so how am I going to work on my own web page without coding and design knowledge? In a previous post, I shared how I started. But when it comes to continuing to maintain it, what should I do? So I ended up using three tools:
- GitHub Desktop is the bridge between the page coding on my VPS and my local machine.
- VS Code is the IDE I can use to edit the page coding.
- Claude AI. Yeah, you're right—AI again. It's my troubleshooting expert for my Ghost page.
The above are my tools for maintaining the web page going forward. Once the above applications are installed, it's just a matter of setup. That will be another post with the detailed setup.
